As a winner of the Making a Difference Awards, Beth Butler found herself travelling to Hong Kong along with a 25-strong team of fellow successful awardees from across Enerven and SA Power Networks.
Beth was nominated for the award for her continuing exemplary work efforts, ensuring she was an obvious choice for the win. When asked how she felt upon receiving the news of her success, Beth said, “I felt really surprised, but very excited and appreciative too. As a part-time female BSO, it showed anyone can win, regardless of the role they hold.”
Between the 9th and 14th of November, Beth and her Enerven teammates took part in work related tours and activities in Hong Kong, learning more about the wider CKI business, which culminated in the CKI Family Day that was held on Sunday the 12th of November. The family day involved games and activities that promoted team bonding through spirited and good-natured competition between other members of the CKI family from around the world.
The pinnacle of the day’s activities was the infamous tug-of-war, which Beth took part in with two of her fellow Enerven team members: Jason Semmler and Craig Swan. Beth said the best part about the games was, “the atmosphere surrounding the tug-of-war, and the bond our group shared from it.” So, what’s the key to winning a game of tug-of-war? “Lean back as far as you can and HOLD! Don’t bend your legs or arms.” Said Beth.
With lots of events and a raft of information to take in over the course of her Hong Kong adventure, not to mention a tiny bit of souvenir shopping, her main highlights of the whole experience were, “getting to know the other team members and their partners, sharing the food and experiences, the banter between other companies, mainly surrounding the tug-of-war, and meeting people from all over the world.”
Beth said that the trip to Hong Kong, "was an amazing experience.” And agreed it was one of the main professional highlights of her 2017. “I also completed a certificate IV in Leadership and Management this week and got through the presentation; that was also a big thing for me.”
With 2018 just around the corner, we’re sure Beth will continue to impress at Enerven.
