Moving to LED lighting is good for the City, the environment, good for residents and good for the Council.
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is a metropolitan local government area of Adelaide, South Australia. It covers the inner eastern suburbs of Adelaide. It is divided into five wards: Torrens, Payneham, West Norwood/Kent Town, Kensington, and Maylands/Trinity. The council is based at the historic Norwood Town Hall.
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters had a requirement to upgrade their street lights to more energy efficient LED.
For the Council street lighting is the second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, next to domestic waste. LED lighting is a much improved light than the old technology and can potentially save up to 75-80 percent in the council's lighting energy use. This reduction will in turn, lower greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 520 tonnes a year, or 4 percent. This project will go a long way in achieving the Councils City Plan 2030 target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 5% by 2020-2021.
