ElectraNet is South Australia’s leader in electricity transmission, operating over 5,600 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and more than 90 high-voltage substations across a vast area of over 200,000 square kilometres. Their $2.5 billion network provides energy solutions to urban centres and remote areas alike and boasts one of the highest reliability levels in Australia. ElectraNet also owns South Australia’s largest private telecommunications network, enabling remote monitoring and operation of their transmission assets.

The opportunity

Through a collaborative partnership, Enerven has consistently gone above and beyond to support ElectraNet’s goals of delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable electricity transmission across South Australia through its maintenance contract. Key aspects of the contract include:

substation maintenance: routine and corrective maintenance of critical assets, including circuit breakers, transformers, secondary protection systems, and SCADA systems
transmission line maintenance: comprehensive support for bushfire prevention, live line maintenance, pole and tower repairs, and conductor stringing
asset inspections: routine inspections using cutting-edge visual and non-destructive testing technologies, including UAVs, thermal imaging, and ultrasound
construction: greenfield substation builds, renewable energy connections, and transmission line construction and refurbishment.

One of the most notable demonstrations of this partnership was during South Australia’s 2016 statewide blackout. Enerven deployed over 100 employees to repair 22 transmission structures across three critical feeders, restoring power to the majority of customers within 16 hours despite extreme conditions.
